As the first point of contact for our company, you will play a crucial role in providing excellent customer service and supporting our solicitors and the rest of the team. We have departments in criminal law, wills, probate and trusts, and conveyancing, so you will primarily be dealing with individual clients as opposed to companies, so a friendly and approachable manner is a must.

We are seeking a full-time (preferable) or part-time person, and we welcome applications from candidates looking for shorter-term or permanent contracts.

Duties:

– Greet and welcome visitors in a professional and friendly manner

– Answer phone calls, take messages, and direct calls to the appropriate person

-Any other jobs required by your Manager

Requirements:

– Proven experience in an administrative or secretarial role

– Excellent written and verbal communication skills

– Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively

– Attention to detail and accuracy in typing

– Professional phone etiquette and customer service skills

Experience working in a legal firm would be a great advantage.

Pay: £22,300.00-£24,000.00 per year. We are happy to discuss salary requirements, and offer a competitive salary. If you think you might be interested or wish to discuss the role further, we would love to hear from you. Please apply today!

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Temporary, Fixed term contract – all considered

If you are interested, please send your CV and covering letter to Janet Waller (janet@cowanslegal.co.uk), or get in touch with David if you have questions before applying.

Criminal Solicitor:

We are looking for a criminal solicitor to support our Criminal Team, in sharing our large volume of own client case work. Therefore, whilst an individual who has the ability to obtain duty slots in their own right would be advantageous, this is not a requirement of the role. LAA supervisor status is a requirement of the role, and as such we will support you to in obtain the status if you do not yet have it.

The role may be attractive to a newly qualified solicitor with experience in criminal law who is looking for a Firm to support them in attaining duty solicitor status, or a duty solicitor seeking to work for a new and supportive firm.

The role is for a minimum of 2 days per week, so we welcome candidates who are seeking either a part-time or a full-time role. Out of hours work is available, and paid accordingly, but candidates would not be obliged to take this up.

The role will require you to be:

  • Experienced in working in criminal defence
  • Proactive
  • Able to deliver excellent client care
  • Computer/IT literate
  • Willing to cover both Surrey and Hampshire matters, although preferences will be considered
  • Able to man out of hours phones (on a rota’d basis to be agreed)

Start date: immediately (or as soon as possible)

Contract: both fixed term and permanent contracts will be considered

Hours: part-time or full-time considered

Salary: market rate

Holiday: 25 days (plus bank holidays), rising to 26 days after one year, and at regular intervals thereafter, up to 30 days.

If you are interested, please send your CV and covering letter to David Cowan (david@cowanslegal.co.uk), or get in touch with David if you have questions before applying.
